We, in Maxol, believe that our activities throughout the island of Ireland should generate economic benefits and opportunities for everyone associated with our companies. The Maxol Group Modern Slavery Statement
Human Trafficking or Modern Slavery as it is often termed, is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, such as slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour and human trafficking, all of which have in common the deprivation of a person's liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain.
We are committed to improving our practices to combat slavery and human trafficking.
This policy statement is part of the Group’s Code of Business Conduct and embodies the principles contained in the Criminal Law (Human Trafficking) Amendment Bill 2013 of the Republic of Ireland and also addresses section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 of the United Kingdom.
Our supply chains
We are a supplier and retailer of motor fuels and we source all our products from UK based refineries. Our suppliers are supported by a global supply chain that includes providers of raw materials, skilled labour and other services and are themselves committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in their supply chains or in any part of their business.
Our policies on slavery and human trafficking
We are committed to preventing the occurrence of modern slavery and human trafficking in all of our business operations in the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom and elsewhere.
This policy demonstrates our commitment to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure slavery and human trafficking is not taking place anywhere in our supply chains.
Due diligence processes for slavery and human trafficking
The Group assesses its suppliers across a number of key risk areas, at the on-boarding stage and annually thereafter. The Group seeks assurances (where appropriate) from our suppliers that they are complying with applicable laws and regulations including laws relating to minimum wages, working conditions, overtime, child labour and applicable labour and environmental laws. This allows us to select suppliers to work with us who adhere to appropriate standards.
We encourage and expect our suppliers and contractors to comply with best practice in tackling modern slavery and human trafficking. We also seek to identify if they operate a vendor management programme and carry out due diligence on their own suppliers to ensure that appropriate standards are being passed through the supply chain.
Prior to working with any supplier or contractor, the company conducts a comprehensive due diligence exercise to ensure that legal and company standards can be met. Following a self-assessment, we will conduct a risk assessment to evaluate labour and human rights performance of our suppliers. This will ensure all those in our supply chain and contractors comply with our values.
We have identified dedicated personnel from across key departments dedicated to ensuring compliance, which consists of representatives from the following departments:

Training and Awareness
The Group is focussed on raising awareness of the Code of Business Conduct with colleagues across the organisation. This includes the provision of annual mandatory training for employees on human trafficking and modern slavery.
Our managers also receive further support that includes training and line management guidance to ensure consistency of our recruitment processes, management of suppliers, fair treatment at work, and inclusion and diversity.
Responsibility for ensuring that The Group has appropriate policies in place to meet our obligations under the Modern Slavery legislation rests with the CEO and Board of Directors.
